Jones Via Tanner
Jones Tanner of Marshall Mill Road, Gladys, died peacefully in the presence of
his family at Lynchburg General Hospital on Saturday, May 30, 2009, after a
short illness.
Mr. Tanner was born March 8, 1921, in Gladys, to Neal Arthur Tanner and Annie
Jones Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Tanner, of Gladys, and four
children, Gary Tanner, and wife, Debra, of Farmville, Brenda Tanner, and
husband, Russell James, of Locust Dale, Dianne Marstin, and husband, Mike, of
Hat Creek, and Van Tanner, and wife, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Additionally he is survived by his sister, Virginia Tanner Coates, of Gladys,
six grandchildren, Charity Hudnut, and husband, Pete, of California, Chris
Tanner, and wife, Danielle, of Rustburg, Melanie Tanner, and Wes Jordan, of
Amherst, Michele Mason, and husband, Matt, of Hat Creek, Stephen Tanner, of
Chapel Hill, N.C., and Rebecca Marstin, of Hat Creek; two great-grandchildren,
Liliana Hudnut, of California, and Nevan Jordan, of Amherst.
Special thanks are given to the staff of the Lynchburg General Hospital Neuro-Intensive
Care Unit for their compassion and care.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Diamond
Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Susie Atkinson with military
honors by V.F.W. Post 4165 and D.A.V. Chapter 46.
The family will receive friends following the service.
